The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a two‑year extension for Mr Shyam Jagannathan, a 1997‑batch IAS officer of the Assam‑Meghalaya cadre, allowing him to continue as Director General of Shipping under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways until June 1, 2028.

This decision ensures steady leadership for India’s apex maritime regulatory authority—the Directorate General of Shipping—which oversees merchant shipping, maritime safety, seafarer welfare, training standards, and the implementation of international conventions.

Under Mr Jagannathan’s stewardship, the Directorate has advanced initiatives in port modernization, coastal shipping, maritime digitization, and seafarer welfare, aligning with the government’s broader vision of strengthening India’s role in global maritime trade and logistics. His continued tenure is expected to sustain momentum in policy reforms, enhance ease of doing business, and reinforce technology‑driven resilience across the shipping ecosystem.

A seasoned bureaucrat, Mr Jagannathan has served in key administrative capacities at both state and central levels. His leadership has been instrumental in guiding India’s maritime sector through a period of transformation marked by digital integration and international collaboration.

In recognition of his continued service, Marex Media Private Limited extends its warm congratulations to Mr Jagannathan on his extended tenure as Director General of Shipping, wishing him continued success and a fruitful term in advancing India’s maritime excellence and global engagement.
