Pratik Bijlani – The US-India Strategic Partnership Forum and Nuclear Energy Institute hosted a high-level India Nuclear Industry Reception on 20 May at the iconic Taj Mahal Palace, marking another significant step in strengthening Indo-U.S. cooperation in civil nuclear energy and advanced clean energy technologies.

The four-day delegation visit brought together senior executives from leading American nuclear companies representing the full nuclear value chain, including advanced reactor developers, infrastructure firms, fuel cycle innovators, and technology providers. Led by Ms Maria Korsnick, President and Chief Executive Officer of Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), the delegation’s visit came at a pivotal moment following India’s landmark SHANTI Act reforms, which have opened new opportunities for private-sector participation and international collaboration in India’s nuclear energy sector.

The event reflected the growing strategic convergence between India and the United States in the clean energy domain and underscored the increasing momentum toward building a resilient, technology-driven, and sustainable nuclear energy ecosystem. Speakers highlighted how rising electricity demand, rapid industrialisation, artificial intelligence infrastructure, and data centre growth are creating new opportunities for clean and reliable nuclear power in India.

During the event, industry leaders and policymakers discussed the transformative potential of the India-U.S. civil nuclear partnership, particularly in areas such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), advanced reactor technologies, infrastructure collaboration, and long-term energy security. The discussions also emphasized the importance of combining American technological expertise with India’s manufacturing strength, skilled workforce, and expanding energy requirements.

Welcoming delegates and dignitaries, Mr Nolty Theriot, Senior Vice President, Government Affairs & Policy, US-India Strategic Partnership Forum highlighted the significance of the U.S. Executive Nuclear Mission arriving at a transformative stage in Indo-U.S. nuclear cooperation. He noted that India is entering a new era of civil nuclear expansion supported by progressive reforms, while also acknowledging the contributions of policymakers and industry leaders working to strengthen bilateral ties.

Addressing the gathering, Ms Korsnick praised India’s ambition and commitment toward securing its energy future through nuclear power while reaffirming NEI’s commitment to strengthening bilateral nuclear cooperation. She stated, “India’s growing ambition in nuclear energy, combined with American technology and expertise, presents an opportunity that extends far beyond our two nations. Together, we can shape the future of global energy by transforming today’s dialogue into meaningful partnerships, sustainable projects, and a cleaner, more secure energy future for generations to come.”

Mr Milind Deora highlighted the remarkable progress achieved in India-U.S. civil nuclear cooperation over the past two decades and emphasized the importance of the SHANTI Bill in enabling private participation and future innovation. He remarked, “India and the United States have travelled a remarkable journey in civil nuclear cooperation over the last two decades. With the SHANTI Bill now enacted, we have created a framework for private participation, clean energy growth, and innovation in SMRs and future technologies, positioning India to meet its energy and net-zero ambitions responsibly.”

The reception further reinforced the shared vision of India and the United States to deepen strategic energy cooperation while advancing sustainable growth, technological innovation, and long-term clean energy security.
