The recent meet of the Board of Directors of FOSMA (Foreign Owners Representatives and Ship Managers Association) in Chennai doubled as a rejuvenating platform for fostering stronger industry relations and collaboration within the maritime sector.

Held at the upmarket Hyatt Regency on the 31st of May 2024, the meet on its sidelines brought together key stakeholders, industry experts, and thought leaders, the event serving as a catalyst for driving innovation, sharing best practices, and addressing pertinent challenges facing the industry.

FOSMA Chairman Capt Sankalp Shukla, welcoming the invitees, said, “By facilitating dialogue and knowledge-sharing, FOSMA has always played a pivotal role in enhancing industry connections, building trust, and fostering a spirit of camaraderie among industry professionals.

“We intend continuing in this very same manner for the future!”

Informal discussions during the meet laid emphasis on leveraging technology and digital advancements to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and drive sustainable practices within the maritime industry. Participants discussed the impact of digitalization on ship management, regulatory compliance, crew welfare, and environmental stewardship, signalling a shift towards a more technologically-driven and future-ready industry landscape.

FOSMA CEO, Capt Rajesh Tandon, while wielding the mic only very fleetingly, let it be known in an aside, “The FOSMA meet here has served as a platform for addressing critical issues such as crew welfare, training, and safety standards.

“By prioritizing the well-being and professional development of seafarers, the industry can ensure a sustainable workforce and uphold high standards of operational excellence and safety across the board.”

The event also underscored the importance of collaboration and partnership among industry stakeholders to navigate challenges, adapt to changing regulations, and drive sustainable growth.

As the industry continues to evolve and adapt to changing dynamics, platforms like FOSMA play a critical role in bringing stakeholders together, fostering dialogue, and shaping a brighter future for the maritime industry as a whole.
