Capt Sengar Leads Lucknow’s Maritime Awakening
The Company of Master Mariners of India (CMMI) marked a historic milestone with the inauguration of its Lucknow Chapter during the India Maritime Summit 2026, held on 13th September at Hotel Savvy Grand, Lucknow. The event brought together distinguished maritime leaders, educators, and industry representatives to honour the courage and service of Indian seafarers — the unseen strength behind every voyage.
In his welcome address, Capt HS Sengar, Founding and Current Chairman of the Lucknow Chapter, set the tone for the evening with a visionary message. “Technology can support the seafarer, but competence, judgment and responsibility will continue to define the professional mariner,” he said, urging continuous learning and respect for the sea. His words resonated deeply with young cadets and seasoned professionals alike.
Capt Sengar’s own journey embodies the spirit of Indian seamanship. Born in 1953 and educated in Mumbai, he began his cadetship in 1971 with Thakur Shipping Co. Over five decades, he commanded more than 50 vessels across oil, chemical, gas, and container fleets — serving with MSC, Univan, V Ships, Fleet Management, and SCI. His leadership, both at sea and ashore, reflects a lifetime of discipline, mentorship, and maritime excellence.
The summit’s Vote of Thanks, highlighted the collaborative spirit that made the event possible — acknowledging Capt M. P. Bhasin, Chairman CMMI India, and representatives from MUI, IMEI, and leading shipping companies. The evening celebrated not only professional achievement but also the unity of India’s maritime fraternity.
Capt Sengar, who also serves as President of Vishesh Khand Kalyan Samiti, Gomtinagar, continues to inspire through his commitment to community and education. Under his stewardship, the Lucknow Chapter aims to bridge inland India with the global maritime network — proving that the call of the sea can echo far beyond the coast.
As the gathering concluded with camaraderie and conversation, one sentiment prevailed: Lucknow may be landlocked, but its maritime spirit now sails strong.
