Government of India is organizing the India Maritime Week 2025, a five-day global event focused on the maritime sector, from October 27th to 31st, 2025 at Mumbai. This significant gathering will bring together over 75+ nations to address innovative solutions for sustainable ocean management and maritime trade. With participation from 200+ international speakers and attendance of 100,000+ delegates, India Maritime Week 2025 will serve as a premier platform to showcase India’s maritime excellence, policy innovations, and international collaborations, while convening global leaders to deliberate on the future of this vital sector.


The week will feature over 10 concurrent events, including the flagship 4th Edition of the Global Maritime India Summit, the Quad Ports of the Future Conference uniting strategic stakeholders from Quad nations and Quad+ partners, and the 2025 Asia-Pacific Regional Dialogue on Sustainable Maritime Connectivity in partnership with the United Nations ESCAP, among other key events. The event is designed to catalyze partnerships, unlock new opportunities, and chart a sustainable roadmap for maritime growth.

As part of the flagship Global Maritime India Summit, the Shipping Corporation of India, under the guidance of Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) is curating a dedicated session on the theme “Maritime Human Capital” on 30th October 2025, Scheduled at Hall 6, Bombay Exhibition Center, the session will bring together over 700 delegates from across the Government, industry, and academia to deliberate on the future of India’s maritime workforce under the Global Maritime India Summit (GMIS) track.


The session will be graced by Dr. Mansukh L. Mandaviya, Hon’ble Minister of Labour & Employment, and Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, as Chief Guest whose presence will underscore the Government’s commitment to aligning labor and skilling policies with the evolving needs of the maritime sector. As India charts its course under national missions such as Viksit Bharat, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, the Minister’s keynote address will highlight the strategic importance of workforce development in enabling sustainable maritime growth.


The programme will include presentations by Directorate General of Shipping, coveringinitiatives such as Sagar Mein Samman (SMS) and Sagar Mein Yog (SMY). The event will also see a felicitation of pioneering Indian women maritime professionals and veteran seafarer Capt. J.C. Anand, Founder of Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass).


The session will also see SCI convene two panel discussions. The first Panel Discussion, on the theme “Seafarers of the Future: Building a Modern Maritime Workforce”, will explore how India can harness its young population, coastal communities, and training institutions to create a globally competitive talent pool. The second panel discussion on the theme “Charting Tomorrow – Talent, Technology and Transformation in Maritime Human Capital” willexamine how digitalization, automation, and sustainability are reshaping skills, and how India can lead this transition. The panels will comprise maritime leaders from diverse fields and geographies, presenting an opportunity for a rounded, comprehensive, and healthy platform for discussion.


This curated session will offer a unique opportunity to celebrate the achievements of India’s seafarers and draw out incisive insights from industry doyens on how the maritime human workforce can address the skilling related challenges presented by a dynamic and volatile future to achieve its full potential and help India achieve its ambitious target of 20% seafarers from the country by 2030 set out under the Maritime India Vision.
