Ms Saleha Shaikh, a trailblazer in India’s maritime industry, has been appointed as an Executive Committee Member of the Kandla Seafarers’ Welfare Association (KSWA) for a one-year term. As the Founder of MUI Women’s Wing, Founder President of Women in Maritime Association (WIMA INDIA), and Founder & CEO of Dynamic Marine Consultants, Shaikh brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the role.

KSWA, a prominent organization dedicated to enhancing the well-being of seafarers, offers a range of services including welfare facilities, medical assistance, recreational activities, and educational programs. Ms Shaikh’s appointment is a testament to her tireless efforts in championing the rights and welfare of seafarers.

A recognized advocate for seafarers’ rights and community welfare, Ms Shaikh has established a Seafarer Community Support System and launched the Dignity at Sea Helpline, a 24×7 support service for women seafarers and families of seafarers in India. Her work during the COVID-19 pandemic earned her a Certificate of Appreciation from The Nautical Institute (UK), and she has been ranked twice among the Top 100 Women in Shipping globally by All About Shipping (UK).

On her appointment, Ms Shaikh said, “Seafarers are the invisible workforce powering global trade. Joining KSWA gives me another opportunity to contribute toward ensuring their welfare, dignity, and holistic support.”

This appointment marks another milestone in Ms Shaikh’s broader vision of strengthening welfare systems, building inclusive communities, and creating long-term support structures for India’s maritime sector.
