On 25th June, the MMS Group marked the Day of the Seafarer with a heartfelt celebration held at the Royal Bombay Seamen’s Club, Mumbai. The event brought together the maritime community to honour the dedication and resilience of seafarers, who form the backbone of global trade. Established in 1981 by Mr Suresh Godbole, the MMS Group, now led by his son Mr Aniruddha Godbole, continues to champion the welfare and contributions of seafarers through initiatives like this.
The event began with a welcome address by Mr. Godbole, Managing Director of MMS Group, who reflected on the legacy of the company’s founder and the steadfast commitment of its workers. Highlighting the group’s impeccable safety record of over five decades without major accidents, Mr. Godbole extended his gratitude and best wishes to the seafarers present.
A presentation by Capt Kamal Chadha, Managing Director, Marex Media Pvt Ltd and Guest of Honor, captivated the audience with a mix of wisdom, humour, and motivational anecdotes. Drawing on historical references, Capt. Chadha emphasized the adaptability and ingenuity required of maritime professionals. “On the Day of the Seafarer, our uniform is more than just attire—it carries the weight of our sweat, the strength of our courage, and the essence of what it means to be a seafarer. We navigate massive ships as deftly as bicycles, braving nature’s fiercest storms—not for personal desire, but because the world depends on us,” he said. He also stressed the importance of teamwork, resilience, health, and environmental harmony in both professional and personal lives, inspiring attendees to embody these values.
The celebration honoured veteran seafarers who had been with MMS Group for over 20 years, recognizing their enduring contributions. A solemn moment of silence was observed to pay respects to Mr Ranoji Mawarkar, a valued member of the community who passed away in 2025.
Dr Sagarika Damle, Executive Director of MMS, introduced the next segment featuring experts from Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute. Mr. Dileep Dauneria delivered an enlightening presentation on yoga’s transformative power, emphasizing its role in stress management, emotional balance, and cognitive health. Detailing the eightfold principles of Ashtanga Yoga, he encouraged attendees to adopt yoga as a holistic lifestyle for self-realization and well-being. Mr. Vedant Vyas followed with a practical session, guiding participants through seated stretches and pranayama exercises.
A hands-on session on life-saving first aid was led by Dr Asif Ahmed Khan, who educated the audience on critical skills for emergency response at sea. From performing CPR on a dummy to handling strokes, burns, and other medical emergencies, Dr Khan’s interactive presentation equipped seafarers with essential knowledge to ensure safety on high seas.
Post-lunch, participants enjoyed two thought-provoking sessions: Dr. Rimpa Sarkar’s presentation on ‘Ensuring Mental Wellness at Sea’ and an interactive dialogue with the Offshore Team, MMS, focusing on seafarer experiences.
The MMS Group’s celebration of the Day of the Seafarer not only recognized the vital contributions of maritime professionals but also reinforced its commitment to their holistic well-being. By combining tradition with innovation, the event exemplified the values of resilience, teamwork, and respect for the maritime community. Through heartfelt tributes and empowering sessions, MMS Group reaffirmed its dedication to the welfare and excellence of those who navigate the world’s oceans.
