The National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) celebrated a significant milestone with the grand reopening of its Kolkata Branch at newly owned premises on June 25, coinciding with the International Day of the Seafarer. This occasion marked a new chapter in NUSI’s commitment to serving Indian seafarers and their families with enhanced infrastructure, improved accessibility, and dedicated support.

The ceremony was attended by esteemed maritime leaders, including Capt Rajesh Tandon, CEO, FOSMA, and Capt SM Halbe, CEO, MASSA, who jointly inaugurated the branch. Mr Shubhankar Bhattacharya, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour, extending his best wishes to the seafaring community and lauding NUSI’s contributions to maritime welfare.

The newly inaugurated premises symbolize NUSI’s growing reach and continued efforts to uplift the seafaring community in the eastern region of India. The event featured a cultural programme, fellowship lunch, and a heartfelt speech by children of seafarers, highlighting the invaluable contribution of seafarers to the Indian economy and the sacrifices they make.

Mr Milind Kandalgaonkar, General Secretary-cum-Treasurer of NUSI, expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, seafarers, and guests, stating that this milestone marks another chapter in NUSI’s rich legacy of service and advocacy for seafarer welfare.
