The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited has announced the appointment of Mr Amitabh Kumar as an Additional and Independent Director, effective January 28, for tenure of 5 years. This move is expected to bring significant expertise and experience to the company’s board, given Mr Kumar’s impressive background in administration, shipping, and public service.

Mr Kumar boasts an impressive educational profile, with a BA (Hons) and MA (Pol Sc) from Hindu College, Delhi, an MBA from Southern Cross University, Australia, and a Doctorate of Management (Honoris Causa) from AMET University. He has also undergone advanced management training at the Maxwell School of Public Policy, Syracuse University, and leadership and change management at the Wharton Business School, USA.

His administrative experience is equally impressive, with roles such as Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, Director General Shipping, Government of India, and Additional Director General of Shipping, Directorate General Shipping, Mumbai, among others. Mr. Kumar has also received numerous awards and recognitions for his exceptional contributions to public service, including the G Files Governance Award, Finance Minister’s Award, and Certificates of Commendation from the CBDT, Ministry of Finance.

As an author, Mr Kumar has published several books, including “Tax Return Preparer Scheme” and “Let Us Share”, a compilation of best practices in the Income Tax Department. He has also written articles in prominent publications such as “ET Infra” and “The Hindu”.

In addition to his new role at The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited, Mr. Kumar holds several other responsibilities, including Chairman of the Seafarers Provident Fund Organization, Chairman of the Seafarers Welfare Fund Society, and Member of the National Shipping Board, among others.
