The 14th Convocation of AMET University was a momentous occasion, held on 4th January, where graduates were celebrated for their academic accomplishments and the start of their professional careers. Dr J Ramachandran, the Founder and Chancellor of AMET University, Chennai, had the honor of presenting the Honorary Doctorate Degree to Capt. Thanuvelil Koshy Joseph, a highly respected figure in maritime education. Despite being unable to attend in person, Capt. Joseph accepted the prestigious award remotely, showing his gratitude for the recognition.

Capt Joseph is a highly revered figure in the maritime industry, renowned for his exceptional mentorship and profound influence on the development of maritime professionals. With a distinguished career that has spanned several decades, he has left an indelible mark on the industry. Notably, he served as the Captain Superintendent of the prestigious Training Ship Rajendra, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of thousands of Master Mariners. Additionally, he held key positions at the esteemed LBS College of Advanced Studies & Research in Mumbai, leveraging his expertise to significantly contribute to the evolution of maritime education in India.

A Citation was formally presented during the Convocation, honoring Capt Joseph’s dedication to the maritime industry and his well-deserved recognition with the Honorary Doctorate Degree (Honoris Causa).

In a poignant online acceptance speech, Capt Joseph conveyed his deepest gratitude to AMET University for conferring upon him the prestigious Honorary Doctorate Degree. He underscored the significance of sustained collaboration in maritime education, highlighting the vital role that esteemed institutions like AMET University play in fostering the growth of future maritime leaders. With characteristic humility, Capt. The event was marked by the presence of several esteemed dignitaries, including Prof. TG Sitharam, Chairman of AICTE, Ministry of Education, Government of India; Dr S Xavier Britto, Chairman of Kerry Indev Logistics Pvt. Ltd, Chennai; and Dr M Ravichandran, Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Earth Sciences, New Delhi, who added their presence and credibility to the occasion, and helped to make the event a memorable and successful one.

Prof Dr V Rajendran, Vice Chancellor of AMET University, welcomed the guests and presented the Annual Report, which showcased the university’s progress and achievements. The presentation of the Citation and the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) Degree was conducted by Hon’ble Provost Col. Dr. G. Thiruvasagam, while the Hon’ble President Dr. Rajesh Ramachandren delivered an inspiring felicitation address, celebrating the institution’s 32-year journey and its transformation into a global maritime knowledge hub.
