  1. Leadership and Responsibility: Remember that power comes with responsibility. As officers in the maritime business, you will be given substantial responsibilities. Leadership is more than just providing instructions; it is also about setting an example and making impromptu judgements that consider the well-being of the crew and the ship.
  2. Adapt and innovate: The maritime industry is always changing due to technical breakthroughs, environmental issues, and global trade dynamics. Be inquisitive, adaptive, and embrace innovation.
  3. Safety First: Prioritise safety; safety for oneself, the crew, the ship, and the surroundings

Another highlight of the event was the investiture ceremony, during which cadets received their new positions. Merit certificates were given to graduating cadets based on their academic achievements as well as their athletic and swimming performance. Furthermore, the dignitaries inaugurated the sixth edition of Samudra Manthan, a biannual newsletter.

He praised the pupils and emphasised the Directorate General of Shipping’s unwavering commitment to sailors’ safety. He emphasised the different obstacles that seafarers face today, as well as the efforts being made by the Directorate General of Shipping to address these issues.

His message to the young graduates was:

  1. Don’t be afraid to fail
  2. Step outside of your comfort zone. Keep learning and view everything as a challenge
  3. Maintain quality when performing your duties
  4. Maintain humility as you achieve success

Parents of the cadets, who were instrumental in their journey and accomplishment, were also present, participating in the pleasure and satisfaction of witnessing their children reach this critical milestone. The celebration not only acknowledged academic achievements, but also emphasised the students’ devotion and hard work throughout their maritime education.
