Sailors’ Society is delighted to announce that the Director General of Shipping in India will give the inaugural address at their 2025 Wellness at Sea Conference for North Asian Cadets, ratings and trainees.

This is the fifth year that the global Maritime charity is hosting these unique virtual events that attract tens of thousands of attendees, and the second time Shri Shyam Jagannathan has introduced the North Asia event aimed at students at India’s maritime schools.

The Director General said, “I am grateful to Sailors’ Society for conducting this global outreach on wellness for seafarers.”

In his address, which begins the day, he will tell the cadets, ratings and trainees that they are joining a “challenging career” and that “tomorrow they will be key workers.”

Sara Baade, Sailors’ Society CEO, said: “These events focus on the issues and concerns the next generation of maritime face, and we are delighted that the Director General will be a key part of the day.

“This year, we will be delving into the impact of connectivity, looking at how those new to the sea can navigate both the positive and negative sides of social media.

We will also be addressing the subject of bullying and harassment, as this is the generation that can bring about a real change in attitudes towards this issue.”

Sailors Society Wellness at Sea Conference for North Asian Cadets, ratings and trainees – “Safe, seen and supported” takes place on Thursday, September 4 at 8.30 am IST.

The conference is sponsored by Seaspan and funded by the TK Foundation.
