In a proud and inspiring moment for India’s maritime community, The Company of Master Mariners of India (CMMI) visited IIM Mumbai on 28th July to felicitate the top performers from Batch 1 (Year 1) of the Executive MBA Program in Logistics, Supply Chain & Maritime Management. This landmark occasion marked not only a celebration of academic excellence but also a testament to the growing synergy between maritime professionals and premier academic institutions.

Two outstanding students from the program were recognized for their exceptional performance. Capt. Amandeep Singh Sethi, Manager at HSEQ & Marine Operations at NYK Shipmanagement India, emerged as the top scorer and was presented with a cheque of ₹3 lakh. The second rank was secured by Capt. Vinay Chandra, Marine Superintendent at Milaha Ship Management, who received a ₹2 lakh award. These awards were generously presented by The Maritime Union of India (MUI), acknowledging the hard work, dedication, and excellence of these maritime professionals turned scholars.

The awards ceremony was conducted in the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including IIM Mumbai’s Director, senior faculty members, and representatives from CMMI and MUI. Presenting the awards were Capt. Tushar Pradhan, General Secretary of MUI; Mr. Rajesh Tandon, CEO of FOSMA; and the Director of IIM Mumbai. Their collective presence underscored the importance of such initiatives in nurturing leadership and academic growth within the industry.

CMMI was represented by a distinguished delegation, including Capt. M.P. Bhasin (Master Chairman, CMMI), Capt. Vivek Bhandarkar (Secretary General, CMMI), Capt. S. M. Halbe (Chairman, EMBA Program Committee), and Capt. Philip Mathews (Committee Member).

Capt. Tushar Pradhan, addressing the students, expressed deep admiration for their dedication: “Thank you for the excellence in your academic first year. And that has brought us here, giving the opportunity for me to come in… Learning is always a good progress. It’s never late. Even at this age, we are still learning, and hats off to you all.”

He also emphasized the importance of sustaining momentum and setting benchmarks for future cohorts: “You will be one step ahead of the next batch… But that doesn’t mean that you don’t have any bigger advantage. I am sure you all will do your best again and put your best foot forward.”

The event not only celebrated achievement but also reaffirmed the value of higher education in empowering maritime professionals with strategic and managerial expertise. CMMI extended its heartfelt appreciation to IIM Mumbai for its unwavering support, academic guidance, and commitment to excellence.

As the first year of this pioneering program concludes, the maritime community looks forward to continued success, with the second phase of the award initiative set to recognise Year 2 achievers. The journey of these professionals stands as a beacon for future generations, symbolising how learning and leadership go hand-in-hand in navigating the evolving waves of the global maritime industry.
