On April 24, Dockendale Ship Management FZCO (Dockendale), a leader in global ship management services, inaugurated its Dockendale Training Academy (DTA) at the company’s Mumbai office. The launch marks a significant milestone in maritime education, showcasing Dockendale’s commitment to innovation, safety, and sustainability in shipping. The event featured prominent figures, including Chief Guest Mr Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Shipping, India, along with Shri Deependra Singh Bisen and Capt. (Dr.) Daniel Joseph from the Directorate General of Shipping.
The event was graced by Dockendale’s leadership, including Mr Robert Muirhead, Director; Mr Vikrant Gusain, CEO; Dr Satish Kumar, COO; Mr Michael Herb, CFO; and Mr Subrat Mukherjee, Manning Director. The presence of key stakeholders and industry leaders underlined the importance of this initiative for India’s maritime sector.
The Academy is a cutting-edge facility designed to equip maritime professionals with the skills required to navigate the rapidly evolving global shipping landscape. By incorporating advanced simulation technology and expert-led instruction, the academy provides both classroom and online programs focused on operational safety and technical performance. Its specialised courses include ship maneuvering, full-mission engine room simulation, ECDIS training, steering certification, liquid cargo handling, and training on alternate fuels like methanol and LNG.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mr Jagannathan highlighted the academy’s alignment with India’s aspirations to become a global maritime training hub, stating, “The DTA marks a significant milestone in maritime education and capacity building. With its emphasis on advanced simulation and emerging skills like alternate fuel handling and ECDIS operations, this initiative aligns well with India’s aspirations. Dockendale is making a valuable contribution to strengthening our nation’s maritime capabilities.”
Dockendale’s global partners lauded the initiative. Mr Muirhead expressed pride in Dockendale’s commitment to preparing seafarers for future challenges, emphasizing the role of technical expertise and safety culture in maritime success. “The launch of DTA reflects our shared commitment to equipping seafarers with the skills, knowledge, and adaptability needed to thrive in an evolving maritime environment,” he stated.
Mr Hassan Sallaum, Director of Sallaum Lines, commended Dockendale for its excellence in crew management and its dedication to talent development. “We are confident that this initiative will elevate operational excellence and make a lasting contribution to the maritime industry, setting new standards for safety and performance,” he said.
DTA’s Principal, Mr. Aseem Malik, underscored the academy’s mission to shape the next generation of maritime professionals. “Our focus is on empowering seafarers with technical expertise and the mindset needed to adapt to new technologies, embrace sustainable practices, and uphold the highest standards of operational excellence,” he remarked.
