The Foreign Owners Representatives and Ship Managers Association (FOSMA) has taken a ground-breaking step in maritime education by adopting the Continual Assessment, Development, and Certification of Faculty (CADCF) framework across its training institutes in Noida and Kolkata. Developed by the ISF Group, CADCF is a credible and pioneering standard in the Indian maritime sector, focusing exclusively on faculty development.
This innovative framework provides a structured and voluntary pathway for trainers and faculty to enhance their competencies through continual assessment and improvement, spanning three levels: Basic, Advanced, and Leadership. CADCF ensures transparency, objectivity, and credibility through clearly defined competencies, assessment tools, and certification mechanisms.
FOSMA CEO Capt Rajesh Tandon has been instrumental in championing the CADCF initiative, engaging with key stakeholders to ensure its successful adoption. “The Director General of Shipping has responded with strong appreciation and support for the program, recognizing its potential to significantly strengthen the capabilities of individual trainers and improve the overall quality of maritime training,” expressed Capt Tandon.
The CADCF framework equips faculty with tools to improve various aspects of their profession, including classroom delivery, course design, validation, feedback analysis, online instruction, accreditation documentation, and critical soft skills such as mentoring and teamwork. By adopting CADCF, FOSMA institutes are setting a new standard for professionalism and accountability in maritime education, paving the way for other institutions to follow.
Capt Tandon’s leadership and the Board of FOSMA’s enthusiastic support have been crucial in driving this initiative forward. The positive response from the Principals of the Noida and Kolkata training institutes reflects their shared commitment to faculty development and training excellence. As the Indian maritime sector continues to evolve, FOSMA’s pioneering effort is poised to make a lasting impact on the industry’s training ecosystem.
