On early Sunday morning, March 30, the Princess Dock in Mazgaon, Mumbai, came alive with energy and enthusiasm as the Directorate General of Shipping hosted the Maritime 10K Run and Cyclothon. As part of the Maritime Games 2025, the event was a celebration of fitness, endurance, and community engagement, drawing participants from various backgrounds, including maritime professionals, fitness enthusiasts, and first-time runners. The event, which kicked off at 6:00 AM, featured multiple categories such as the 3K, 5K, and 10K runs, along with a thrilling 10K cyclothon.
The Maritime 10K Run and Cyclothon was designed to encourage a culture of health and wellness among maritime professionals and the wider community. It provided an inclusive platform where seasoned athletes and beginners alike could test their endurance and determination. Participants were met with a well-organized setup that included a selfie booth, medical assistance stations, recovery booths, and baggage counters, ensuring a seamless experience for everyone involved. In addition to the joy of participation, runners and cyclists were further motivated by the promise of attractive prizes and hampers, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.
The event was supported by esteemed organizations such as the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), and The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd., underscoring the collective commitment of the maritime industry to promoting well-being and camaraderie. It was attended by prominent industry figures, including Mr. Deependra Singh Bisen, Deputy Director General of Shipping at DG Shipping; Mr. Girish Phadnis, Competition Director of the Maritime Games 2025; Mr. Sunil Kumar, CTO and Head – T&A at Great Eastern Shipping; Dr. Pandurang Raut, Deputy Director at DG Shipping; Dr. Sudhir Kohakade, Deputy Director General at DG Shipping; and Capt. Vivek Bhandarkar, Secretary General at CMMI. Their presence highlighted the significance of the initiative and reinforced the message that fitness is an integral part of professional excellence in the maritime sector.
One of the standout moments of the event was the awe-inspiring display of endurance by athlete Sukant Singh Sukhi, who captivated the crowd by performing 50 pushups in a row, demonstrating remarkable strength and determination. His performance served as a powerful reminder of the importance of physical fitness in achieving both personal and professional success. Adding to the energy and excitement of the morning, Ms. Svetana Kanwar from DanceSculpt led the participants in a series of warm-up exercises and stretches before the races began. As the founder of DanceSculpt, a fitness program designed to train individuals like dancers, Ms. Kanwar brought a unique and engaging approach to preparing the runners and cyclists for their challenges ahead.
The Maritime 10K Run and Cyclothon was more than just a race; it was a celebration of perseverance, teamwork, and community spirit. By bringing together maritime professionals, fitness advocates, and industry leaders, the event reinforced the idea that physical fitness and mental well-being are crucial in all walks of life.
