Mumbai, 19th March 2025 – The National Maritime Games 2025, a landmark initiative by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), is set to make history as the first-ever sporting event dedicated to the Indian maritime sector. Adding to the excitement, the official games mascot, Capt. Matsya, was revealed today, symbolizing the spirit of resilience, strength, and sportsmanship that defines the maritime community.
Officially launched with the inspiring call “Kheloge To Khiloge” by Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, the event aims to foster collaboration and excellence within the industry.
The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, 23rd March 2025, at 5:00 PM, at the Indian Maritime University, Navi Mumbai (T.S. Chanakya Campus). The event will be graced by Dr. P.T. Usha (MP), President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), as the Chief Guest, further cementing its stature as a premier sporting event.
A special event with Dr. P.T. Usha will take place on Monday, 24th March 2025, at 9:00 AM, at the Ramsheth Thakur International Sports Complex, Ulwe, Navi Mumbai. The legendary athlete will inaugurate the National Maritime Games, offering inspiration to participating maritime athletes. Nearly 70 companies are taking part in this event with the entire maritime community coming together in support of this landmark initiative.
Under the leadership of Shri Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Shipping, the competition is being spearheaded by Capt. Girish Phadnis, Competition Director, the National Maritime Games 2025 is set to redefine the role of sports in India’s maritime sector. The event is supported by leading maritime institutions, including the Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI), Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), and Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA). K2K Events, renowned for their high-impact sporting spectacles, have been entrusted to bring the event’s vision to life.
