The Indian Maritime University’s Navi Mumbai Campus recently hosted “ANGLOTHON”, a national-level English proficiency competition, on March 3. The event brought together talented maritime students from across India to showcase their language skills and compete for top honours.

The day-long competition consisted of three exciting events: Debate, Quiz, and Just A Minute. These events aimed to promote excellence in English language skills, critical thinking, research, and effective communication among maritime students.

A total of 95 cadets from 16 institutions participated in the online elimination round, with 25 selected cadets from 10 finalist institutions competing in the live program. The finalists included students from IMU NMC, IMU Vizag, IMU CC, IMU KC, TMI, SCI MTI, GEIMS, AMET, SIMS, and CMC.

Cmde KD Joshi (IN) (Retd) Controller of Examinations & Head (Admissions & Academics), Indian Maritime University, Chennai inaugurated the programme. The winners of each event were awarded trophies, certificates, and cash prizes by the Chief Guest, Mr Sharad Bhagwan Pawar, Deputy Commissioner, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

The winners of the competition were:

  • Debate: IMU Navi Mumbai Campus (Cadet Tejashava and Cadet Nirbhay Kumar Patel)
  • Quiz: IMU Chennai Campus (Cadet Joshua Abraham Chekkulathu and Cadet Parinesan T)
  • Just A Minute: IMU Vizag Campus (Cadet Ikea Maria Coelho and Cadet Ashish)

“ANGLOTHON” aims to foster healthy competition and promote excellence in English language skills among maritime students. The event has become a prestigious platform for students to showcase their talents and develop essential skills for their future careers.
