Collision involving an LPG carrier, a Coal vessel and a fishing boat

A coal-laden vessel ‘MV Mizan’, collided head-on with a large vessel ‘MV Era Star’ carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the Pashur Channel off Mongla Port in Bagerhat last Friday leaving a fisherman named Lokman Hakim missing, who was caught in between onboard a fishing trawler that sank unfortunately.
According to the Coast Guard, the accident occurred around midnight near Karomjol area in the Pashur Channel when the MV Mizan, carrying 500 tonnes of coal collided head-on with the larger vessel named “MV Era Star” coming from the opposite direction.
While eight sailors of MV Mizan managed to swim ashore, no crewmembers aboard the ERA STAR were injured. The gas carrier had left the port on 1 November to arrive at anchorage, where it remained on Tuesday, according to AIS data.
A diving team of the Coast Guard has been conducting a search and rescue operation. Two patrol boats from the Bangladesh Coast Guard and a diving team are still searching the area, looking for the missing person.
