Senior officials from the Directorate General of Shipping met with key delegates from the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) in an important step towards enhancing seafarers’ well-being. Mr. Steve Trowsdale, ITF Inspector Coordinator; Mr. Mohamed Arrachedi, ITF, FOC Network Coordinator for Arab World and Iran; Mr. Jonathan Warring, Senior Legal Advisor; and Capt. Tushar Pradhan (MUI) were among the members of the ITF delegation.

During the meeting, both sides had an in-depth discussion on urgent issues affecting the well-being and rights of marine workers. Key themes covered included safety precautions, improved working conditions, protection against unfair practices, and ensuring that seafarers receive adequate legal and financial support in accordance with international maritime norms.

The DG Shipping officials emphasised their commitment to protecting seafarers’ interests and ensuring that India’s maritime sector complies with global standards. ITF officials praised India’s proactive approach to seafarers’ welfare and emphasised the significance of ongoing partnership to address industry concerns.

Furthermore, the ITF delegates paid a visit to the NUSI headquarters to give the sailors with vital information. This meeting is a crucial step towards improving ties between India’s maritime administration and international organisations dedicated to seafarers’ rights, paving the way for additional good developments in the field.
