First time in 15 years, AEMA officer graduates entirely manned MV Federal Clyde
Ship management companies that run specific pre-sea training institutions are uncommon, but they provide shipowners with the certainty of a consistent supply of highly qualified seafarers to manage their vessels. When the whole officer pool comes from the same prestigious academy, the advantages are much larger. For the first time in 15 years, an Anglo-Eastern-managed vessel, the MV Federal Clyde, is totally staffed by Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy (AEMA) officer graduates. This exceptional result in the industry demonstrates the company’s dedication to training, which is paying off with an ever-increasing ability to produce strong performance on both technical and crewing levels.
Established in 2009 in Karjat, India, AEMA is dedicated to educating and training future seafarers to the best standards, assuring a consistent supply of cadets for dependable ship management services. The award-winning AEMA programme provides cadets with current industry knowledge, operational skills, and soft skills. The institute’s advanced teaching facilities include a large mechanical workshop, state-of-the-art simulators, virtual reality, and game-based e-learning. The academy’s professors include seasoned former masters and chief engineers who are still actively engaged in the sector.
AEMA has trained a total of 5,935 cadets: 3,160 deck cadets with a Diploma in Nautical Science, 2,240 Graduate Mechanical Engineers (GMEs), and 535 Electro-Technical Officers (ETOs) in 15 batches.
Having a complete complement of AEMA officers provides a consistent strategy, a high-quality skill set, and the ability to mobilise swiftly and efficiently in the event of an emergency at sea. This milestone demonstrates Anglo-Eastern’s commitment to developing maritime skills and establishing industry standards.
Anglo-Eastern chairman Peter Cremers stated, “This achievement is a tremendous milestone for Anglo-Eastern as well as for me personally. Training was a fundamental component of my vision when we founded AEMA all those years ago. I believed then, and continue to feel now, that ship managers like ourselves have a responsibility to help our seafarers enhance their talents. This ensures a specific level of excellence in our sector and for our clients. I just hope that others notice this and invest like we have.”
“Fednav has supported Anglo-Eastern’s in-house academy from its inception. Anglo-Eastern’s ability to attract excellent talent and teach them according to criteria far surpassing industry standards, in line with our specific needs and expectations, and to provide young professionals with outstanding knowledge, tools, and abilities is truly fantastic. “We are very excited to follow the career progression of AEMA alumni,” said Martin Krafft, vice president fleet management at Fednav.
Tejinder P. S. Bhamra, principal of AEMA, said, “The news of M.V. Federal Clyde being staffed by AEMA alumni thrills us with delight and pride. This achievement is the culmination of our arduous work and underscores our dedication to developing world-class marine professionals.”
Capt. Danish Joseph stated, “It is an honour to lead the M.V. Federal Clyde team, which was forged in AEMA’s prestigious classrooms.” This accomplishment exemplifies the academy’s commitment to excellence and the spirit of its cadets. As we design our course, we continue on our alma mater’s legacy, driven by enthusiasm and camaraderie. Together, we shall face difficulties and achievements, inspiring future generations of AEMA leaders. We are proud to show what well-trained mariners can accomplish, and I am grateful for the cooperation of AEMA, Anglo-Eastern, and Fednav.”
Anglo-Eastern achieved this significant milestone as a result of a sustained, strategic, and thoughtful investment in providing in-depth, quality, hands-on training through AEMA and its various training centres, with this vessel expected to be the first of many to benefit from these initiatives. This achievement exemplifies the company’s dedication to creating a better marine future for its employees and communities.
